President George H. Bush launched a third American-inspired new world order (NWO), declaring that we were heading for 'a world where the rule of law supplants the rule of the jungle, a world where the strong respect the rights of the weak'. This chapter explores how the NWO differs for the previous Woodrow Wilsonian and Theodore Rooseveltian varieties and how it may resemble them, be a continuity of them, or at least be identifiable as one of their offspring. It addresses whether the actions and justification of the George W. Bush Presidency and President William Jefferson Clinton show a 'new' approach to American order making and maintaining, distinct from that of their forbears Wilson and Roosevelt. Many Democrats have asserted that there is a clear discontinuity between the Bush presidencies and that of Clinton.
