Abstract only

In this chapter, author describes his position on creative incarceration and the strategies for surviving freedom. Critically studying Literatures of Incarceration texts might be one of the many ways of beginning to understand a world which is in danger of creating unacceptable gulags of the twenty-first century. The world is replete with subtly crafted memoirs and testimonies on incarceration, which can be fruitfully studied as literature in its own right. For many years writers have written novels, essays, poetry and plays about their imprisonment, their fight for justice and their struggle to restore the dignity they or others have lost. Desperate measures to increase the number of prisons and establish projects like anti-social behaviour orders (ASBOs), which purport to protect the ordinary citizens from local thugs, have come to the fore.
