Museums have always been perceived as loci of learning and research. Museums are increasingly aware of their role as a learning resource, their need to provide formal, informal and self-directed learning opportunities for visitors of all ages. It also shows the importance of reaching out to new target audiences in the community. This chapter focuses on Hunterian's strategy and ambitious plans for collaborations in cultural engagement and lifelong learning within the city. Few cities in the United Kingdom (UK) are more engaged in the provision of cultural and lifelong learning opportunities than Glasgow. The Hunterian is forming partnerships with other education providers, the university's Centre for Open Studies for lifelong learners and Glasgow Museums' for visitors of all ages, tapping into their expertise and market. A core activity for the Centre for Open Studies is the Open Programme of courses for adults.
