With Aritha van Herk's No Fixed Address, the discussion of neo-Gothicism in this chapter reaches the context of the 1980s. The chapter discusses how 'stripping the gothic' works in terms of form, dress and space, the 'naked North' of Canada. It also discusses the possibilities of dress as form in a border space like Canada's geographical margins, and of dress as engendering and disguising the subject-in-process. The chapter focuses on the look and effects of dress for neo-gothic texture. Neo-gothicism has come to expose the connectedness of the gothic forms of feminist fictions, in the feminine shape of the text as flexible dress and in a feminine way of connecting that anticipates the new decentralised forms of communication of the coming century. This is done so through the process of stripping layers of textures and of unfixing subjectivity into 'women-as-verbs'.
