Herbert Adolphus Miller (1871–1951) made novel arguments about empire, race and the domination of subject minorities. He was active in local movements for racial equality in the US as well as advocating for subject minorities in central Europe and globally to overcome racial hierarchies. He was an early proponent of a global social order that drew on different cultural traditions and provincialised the West.
