Ibidun Adelekan is a Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Her research interests are in the areas of climate and society interactions, human dimensions of global environmental change, and urban risks.

Andreza Aruska de Souza Santos (Editor) is Lecturer at the Latin America Centre and Director of the Brazilian Studies Programme at the University of Oxford. She works on participatory politics in cities in the global south. She is the author of the book Politics of memory: Urban cultural heritage in Brazil, which examines the relationship between nationalism, collective memory and the editing of history through urban design.

Divine Mawuli Asafo is a PhD candidate in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at the University of Sheffield. His research focuses on the nexus between land conflicts and individual housing development in peri-urban Accra, a study which examines the extent to which tenure uncertainty in customary land affects the individual house-building processes in those areas.

Lucy Baker is a Senior Research Fellow at the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU), University of Sussex. Her three main areas of research are: ownership, finance and renewable energy; governing electricity in a time of technological disruption; and technological capabilities and global production networks in renewable energy.

Alejandro Barcena is a Research Associate in the Department of Geography at King's College London. His research interests include the production of urban risk and its relation with urbanisation processes in the global south.

Soumana Boubacar is Head of Department of the Rural Sociology and Economics Faculty of Agronomy, Lecturer in Agroeconomics and President of the University Life Observatory (OVU) at Abdou Moumouni University, Niamey, Niger.

Stefan Bouzarovski is Professor of Human Geography at the University of Manchester. His research is on energy poverty, justice and equity.

Sibongile Buthelezi is Research Assistant at the School of Built Environment and Development Studies, University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), South Africa. Her main focus of research is in literature reviews, field surveys (quantitative and qualitative), community research training and coordinating fieldwork, in-depth interviews, focus groups and processing of survey data.

Federico Caprotti is an Associate Professor in Human Geography at the University of Exeter. His research is on urban smart and environmental futures.

Sarah Charlton is an Associate Professor in the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of the Witwatersrand and Associate Director of its Centre for Urbanism and Built Environment Studies (CUBES). Her research focuses mainly on South Africa and includes low-income housing policy and practice, alternative accommodation strategies and the everyday lives of poor city residents, as well as the drivers and inhibitors of more inclusive cities.

David Dodman is Director of the Human Settlements Group at the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), and a Senior Teaching Fellow in the Development Planning Unit, University College London.

Henrik Ernstson is Lecturer in Human Geography at the University of Manchester and Honorary Associate Professor at the African Centre for Cities at the University of Cape Town. He is developing a situated approach to urban political ecology with a special focus on southern and postcolonial urbanism.

Stephen Essex is Associate Professor in Geography at the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Plymouth. His research is on policy formulation, implementation and analysis with regards to planning.

Maria Christina Georgiadou is a Reader in Construction at the School of Applied Management, University of Westminster. She has a wide range of research interests including energy efficiency and future-proofing of residential buildings and sustainable communities. She has led interdisciplinary research projects on urban regeneration, construction management and low-cost housing.

Tom Goodfellow is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at the University of Sheffield. His research concerns the political economy of urban development in Africa, with a particular focus on Rwanda, Uganda and Ethiopia.

Jiska de Groot is a Senior Researcher at the African Climate and Development Initiative, University of Cape Town. Jiska's research interests are in the social processes surrounding energy access, low-carbon energy transitions, and energy and climate justice.

Jennifer Houghton is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Urban Futures Centre, Durban University of Technology, and an Associate Research Fellow of the Graduate School of Business and Leadership at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Her research focuses mainly on urban transformation in South Africa, with a particular interest in economic development programmes and improvements in quality of life through economic and skills-development initiatives.

Zhengli Huang gained her PhD from Tongji University in 2017 with a thesis focused on informal settlements in cities in Africa and the dynamic nature of these settlements. She recently completed work on a project about China's impact on African urbanisation, taking Ethiopia and Uganda as case studies, and is now working as an independent researcher.

Hamadou Issaka is a Research Fellow at the Institute for Research in Human Sciences (IRSH), Department of Geography and Spatial Planning, Abdou Moumouni University of Niamey, Niger. His research interests include socio-environmental risks, vulnerabilities and urban morpho dynamics.

Irmelin Joelsson is a doctoral candidate in the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology/COMPAS at the University of Oxford. Irmelin's research explores urban transformation in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, through an ethnography of the intersection between instances of insurance and infrastructure.

Cassidy Johnson is an Associate Professor at the Bartlett Development Planning Unit (DPU), University College London. Her academic interests are in integrating disaster risk into development, post-disaster recovery and the role of local governments, civil society and communities in this.

Michael Keith (Editor) is the Director of the PEAK Urban programme on global urban futures, working between China, Colombia, India and South Africa and the Centre on Migration Policy and Society at the University of Oxford. He was also the Director of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Urban Transformations Programme (2015–20). His own research has focused on the interface of migration and urbanism.

Mary Lawhon is an Assistant Professor at the University of Oklahoma. Her research interests include urban political ecology, infrastructure politics and postcolonial theory in African cities.

Hayley Leck is a development geographer whose research focuses on climate-resilient development in the global south, with particular expertise in urban climate adaptation, governance and disaster risk management.

Claudia Loggia is Senior Lecturer in Housing at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. She has extensive experience and consultancy work in the areas of energy efficiency, building design and retrofit, low-income housing design and informal settlement upgrading, smart cities, renewable energy and green infrastructure.

Anesu Makina is a PhD candidate at the Department of Geography and Environmental Sustainability (DGES) at the University of Oklahoma. Her research interests include urban informality and political ecology.

Mtafu Manda is a Senior Lecturer in the Built Environment Department, Mzuzu University and Urban Research & Advocacy Centre (URAC), Malawi.

Fikile Masikane is a PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, focusing on our understanding of waged work in relation to black liberation after 1994. She is a researcher for various organisations and her most recent work was with Advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi's book, The land is ours.

Blessing Mberu is a Senior Research Scientist and Head of Urbanization and Wellbeing at African Population and Health Research Center and an Honorary Professor of Demography and Population Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.

Paula Meth is a Reader in Urban Studies and Planning at the University of Sheffield and an Associate Fellow of the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. She focuses on social and everyday lives within cities of the global south, including South Africa, India and Ethiopia.

Nate Millington is Presidential Fellow in Urban Studies in the Department of Geography and the Manchester Urban Institute at the University of Manchester. His research focuses on the politics of the urban environment in an era of climate crisis, with particular interests in the governance of water and waste.

Tatenda Mukwedeya is a Lecturer in Sociology at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. His research interests are in political sociology with a particular focus on politics of the poor, local governance, the local state and everyday lives.

Ezebunwa Nwokocha is Professor of Sociology at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria and Research Associate in public management, governance and public policy at the University of Johannesburg.

Emmanuel Osuteye is Research Fellow at the Bartlett Development Planning Unit (DPU), University College London, and works on the interface between development and environmental concerns in the urban global south, including the links between urban sustainability and resilience.

Mark Pelling is Professor of Geography at King's College London and seconded to the Global Challenges Research Fund as its Challenge Leader for Resilience and Climate Change. His expertise is urban climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction.

Saska Petrova is a Senior Lecturer in Geography at the School of Environment, Education and Development, University of Manchester. She carries out research in political ecology, inequality and vulnerability with regards to energy, and crisis, financialisation and sustainable cities.

Jon Phillips is a Lecturer at the University of Cambridge's Centre for Development Studies. He is interested in relationships between society and environment, which guide his research on the production of resources and the governance of energy in the developing world.

Yachika Reddy is a Project Manager at Sustainable Energy Africa (SEA), Cape Town. Her experience includes project management, training, facilitation, research and data analysis in wide-ranging and complex energy and climate change projects.

Metadel Sileshi Belihu is Researcher and Lecturer at Emerging City Lab Addis Ababa (ECL-AA) and is currently completing her doctoral studies in the Bauhaus University, Weimar. She has a special interest in urbanisation processes in the global south, specifically in Ethiopia, with a particular focus of integrating socio-spatial dimensions in housing, informality, activities and common spaces.

Kathleen Stokes is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Geography at Trinity College Dublin. Her research focuses on political geographies of urban space, infrastructures, labour and citizenships in (post)colonial cities.

Erik Swyngedouw is Professor of Geography at the University of Manchester. His research focuses on political ecology, urban governance and emancipatory politics.

Alison Todes is Professor of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. Her work focuses on planning and spatial change in cities and regions, with a particular focus on questions of spatial transformation in South Africa.

Peta Wolpe is Managing Director of Sustainable Energy Africa (SEA), Cape Town. She has worked on a range of projects including energy and climate change strategy development, energy poverty, low-carbon development and vertical integration between local and national government.
