The editors would like to thank the Arts and Humanities Research Council for funding The Pandemic and Beyond, and for Dawn Greenberg and Sharon Brookshaw’s cheerful and valuable hands-on support offered throughout the gestation of these volumes. The University of Exeter provided support in the shape of study leave as well as funding for policy engagements, the publication of these Open Access volumes, and for our wonderful intern Blakeney Clark, who helped with copy-editing the chapters. At the University of Exeter, too, Adam Watt, Philip Schwyzer and Jo Gill were instrumental in making tricky things happen.

At the MUP end, it has been a pleasure to work with Thomas Dark, Shannon Kneis, and Laura Swift. Thank you to Jane Robson for careful copy-editing work.

We would furthermore like to thank all the members of the Pandemic and Beyond team who shaped the project between 2021 and 2023 and whose contributions it is impossible to disentangle from our thinking. The team consisted of:

Principal Investigator: Pascale Aebischer

Co-Investigators: Des Fitzgerald, Sarah Hartley, Benedict Morrison, Victoria Tischler

Post-Doctoral Research Assistants: Karen Gray, Rachael Nicholas, Eleanor O’Keeffe

Media Team: Garth Davies and Ciaran Jones (University of Exeter Press Office); Blakeney Clark, Olivia Rees and Paula Navarro Flores (Student Interns)

Lived Experience Panel: Ronald Amanze, Alexandra Kulanthai, James Oprey, Susanne Syme

Policy Support: Marina Altoé and Emma Rundle (Policy@Exeter); Trevor MacFarlane (Culture Commons)

Thanks are also due to the inspiring researchers in the ‘Bridging Distance in the Creative Industries’ cluster who shared their work-in-progress, resources and stories with us. Throughout the project, Ben Walmsley went beyond the call of duty in sharing information, resources and offering advice.

The work on this book took place throughout a pandemic in which we were more reliant than ever on the kindness and support of those around us. Pascale would like to thank David, Rhiannon and Glyn for making room for a project that was often overwhelming and for being there when things were tough, and Rachael for continuing with this book project long after her life had taken an exciting new direction. Rachael would like to thank Chester for being a happy obstacle to editing, thank Claire, Ian and Janet for help with childcare, thank Olly for his patience and support, and Pascale for being a tirelessly supportive PI, co-editor and mentor.
