How will my institution gain access?

On receipt of a paid order, you will receive an e-mail invitation to activate your access. For assistance with any access queries, please email manchesterhive@manchester.ac.uk


Do you work with EZ Proxy?

Yes, EZ Proxy has been configured for manchesterhive and manchesteropenhive.

Does manchesterhive work with Shibboleth?

Yes - you can set up Shibboleth via the Access Management System:

  1. Sign in to your account using the login credentials sent to you when your account was activated

  2. Choose the 'Access' tab, followed by the 'Edit Account Access' button

  3. Enter your Shibboleth entity ID into the appropriate field. You can obtain your entity ID from your institution. The entity ID is an identifier that usually looks like an URL such as "https://www.yourinstitution.edu/shibboleth"

  4. Click 'Add Attribute Group' and enter a title - this is for your reference only

  5. Click 'Add Shibboleth Attribute' and enter the attribute name and value that your institution will provide. Please use the 'name' version of this attribute and not the 'friendly name'. You can add additional attributes and groups as needed


Are there any DRM restrictions on the content that I access?

All of our electronic content is DRM free.


I have a subscription to MUP content via IngentaConnect, will this be transferred?

All of our current customer's subscriptions will be transferred onto the new platform at launch. You should still have the same access you had at Ingenta. You will also be sent log in credentials for the Account Management System, so that you can view and manage your account details and subscriptions.


How many users can access the content at any one time?

We offer unlimited, simultaneous user access to our electronic content.


Can I buy individual ebook titles or do I have to purchase them in a collection?

EPUBs can be purchased through our marketing site and distribution partners: http://www.manchesteruniversitypress.co.uk/

On manchesterhive and manchesteropenhive each of the book pages has a 'Buy the book' link which will take you to the relevant title to make your purchase.

Individual titles in PDF format are available from selected partners, including Proquest, EBSCO, OUP and Kobo.


Where can I purchase print copies of your books?

You can use the 'Buy book in print' button on the book title page to see available print formats and how to purchase.


Can I request a free trial?

Free 30 day trials are available to institutions, please get in touch with us on manchesterhive@manchester.ac.uk. If you are a student, please ask your library administrators to get in contact.


Are MARC records available?

MARC records are available to download for our ebook collections. Download MARC records here.


How do I access my usage statistics?

COUNTER usage statistics are available via the Access Management System


Do you publish any Open Access content?

Yes, we have a dedicated site that hosts our open access content. Please go to  www.manchesteropenhive.co.uk


Can I gain access to your Open Access content via manchesterhive?

Yes; open access content is visible in searches you carry out within manchesterhive, and will be opened in a new tab. You can also switch between sites using the manchesterhive and manchesteropenhive links situated in the primary navigation bar.


How do I subscribe to one of your journals?

We publish a range of subscription and Open Access journals for the academic community. See the individual journal sites below for information about the journals, submission guidance and links to read the journals online.


Do you offer grace periods for annual subscription purchases?

Yes, we offer a 90-day grace period starting from 1st January of each calendar year.


Who can I contact for any access issues?

You can contact us on manchesterhive@manchester.ac.uk if you have any questions about the content hosted on manchesterhive and on manchesteropenhive@manchester.ac.uk for questions regarding our open access site.


How do I generate a Rest API Key?

You can generate a rest API key by editing your account details in the AMS. Simply navigate to the account details page, choose 'Edit account details' in the top right corner, then scroll down the page to the 'External ID' heading. The button to generate a rest API is on the right hand side. 


Can I set up alerts for new content?

Yes, it is possible to set up alerts to be notified whenever new content that you have access to has been added to the site, see the below instructions:

1.  Create or log in to an account on manchesterhive, which uses the email address that you wish to receive alerts on
2.  Once logged in, go to www.manchesterhive.com/accessible-content
3.  Click on the save button on the right hand side of the screen
    
4.  Then tick the box saying 'Notify me via email of new results from this search' and click save.
