This is your chance to explain what can now be understood about the topic based on the answers you have provided to the questions you posed at the beginning. Much as with the conclusion of an essay, the conclusion of your dissertation should synthesise the key points you have made to provide an overview of your argument, evaluating your position and casting your own work in a critical light.

Games are being used to engage the public in the research process, for example, Fraxinus; a Facebook game designed to support research on ash dieback disease, and Fold.it, a game to support research on protein folding. These are examples of citizen science projects (see Chapter 9 ) that have turned routine elements of research into games as a means of using the public’s interest in playing games to further research ends. Sometimes called ‘serious games’, games may be designed for specific
